Caring  For Your Wig

If you take proper care of your wig it will last much longer and give you better service.

How you take care of the wig very much depends on the kind of wig you have purchased. hopefully you took all important factors into

consideration before deciding which type of wig was best for you.

Human hair wigs cost more than synthetic and have many advantages. They last longer, can be restyled when you want to and  look and feel

more natural. Synthetic hair wigs can look very "wiggy" if not carefully chosen and well fitted and of top quality.

Here is how to care for your wig:

Use a shampoo with conditioner  which  says in the instructions that it may be used to wash permanently waved hair, and colored or

processed hair. Wash in water which is lukewarm to cold and comb out any tangles in the hair. Definitely do not scrub--wash gently as you

would your own hair. The wig must not be washed too often or it will quickly wear out. In cold temperature weather wash the wig after about

every fifteen or so wearings. You can adjust this as needed of course if the wig feels dirty but the less you wash the better. In warm

temperatures you will likely have to wash the wig more often as it absorbs perspiration.. Try to keep this to every eight or so wearings to

minimise damage to the wig. Again you may have to adjust the time as needed as some people perspire more than others. If you wear the wig

in dusty or sandy areas you may have to wash more often. Just keep it to the minimum necessary.

Drying the wig is best done by air drying. after towelling (very gently)  to get rid of most of the water. Set it in an airy spot on a wire mesh

head or just on a dry towel. If the wig is human hair a blow dryer will do it no harm, but definitely do not blowdry a synthetic wig or it will be

ruined.

Your human hair wig can be styled just as you would your own hair. You can use hot curlers or blowdryer. A synthetic wig on the other hand

will be ruined by anything hot. Synthetic wigs retain their styling, after washing,  and only need to be gently brushed out with a wire wig

styling brush.
